    Current Metagame(s)

Post by crimsonstorm on Thu Jan 21, 2010 1:51 pm

Since one hasn't been started yet, I'm starting this one to discuss the current metagame, smogon tier changes and etc.

To start things off here, what impact have you seen with Cress becoming uu now and Porygon Z dropping down to nu?

To add something else here, I've been seeing an increase in strange focus sash leads.

    Porygon-Z is UU, not NU.

Ok first of all, cress in uu is very, very unbalanced, if it isnt running spdef there are only a handful of things that can kill it, namely mismagius and Gardevoir, and if it is running spdef, it can cripple both of these, and then moonlight its way back to full health. And if its running calm mind, god help us all xD
Previously excellent pursuiters such as hitmontop cower before Cresselia, because even with life orb it doesent hurt it badly at all, doing 50%> if its the usually run defensive set.
As for porygon-z, well its a very strong Spattacker in both OU and UU, and i havent (believe it or not) encountered it properly yet and even when i did it was dispatched easily.

Honchkrow and Gallade in BL is disgusting, they really made UU what it was before, a fun, less that predictable place in the pokemon metagame

I have to agree with Arcanist.. Cresselia is a little too good defensivly for the UU Tier. In my opinion, it is another case of what happened with Manaphy, but Cresselia is used a whole lot more in OU!!

Here's hoping that Cresselia goes back up soon enough!

PorygonZ to UU is a change I am not too bothered about, seen as too many Pokemon can just get a quick kill in on it in OU. (Namely Scizor) In UU, it is more or less another Alakazam. Fast and strong, but with paper defences..

In my opinion a few things that need amending:

    • Cresselia to OU
    • Umbreon to OU
    • Typhlosion to UU
    • Espeon to UU
    • Ursaring to UU
    • Meganium to UU
    • Primeape to UU
    • Raikou to BL

Cresselia really isn't a problem in UU. She is easy to deal with, and easy to set up on. I don't really understand whats wrong with umbreon at all, she is much easier to deal with then cresselia is.

I agree with Raikou Being Banlist

Can't say much about the others since I don't play NU.

Salamence Should be OU in my opinion. There are no counters to him, only "checks". Salamence has incredibly destructive power in the hands of a good player.

    Cresselia to OU 100%
    That thing is so annoying...

Why Ursaring though? Seems to me it should be NU..
I mean, even with Quick Feet is slooowwww.....

Actually it gets up to 313 Adamant, so it can outspeed most of the threats to it if they aren't scarfed.

Hmm, maybe most guys I fight just don't use Quick Feet xD.
There are still the odd Scarf Lucario, Infernape, etc. that can outspeed and wreck it though.

That would be a valid argument if Infernape and Lucario were in UU.

And BTW Ecunami, in UU Umbreon is only really set up fodder for Aggron, so that's hardly reason to say its easy bait. Everything else can take damage from it, which racks up after Curse, or can be Toxiced.

Stong fighting types can easily deal with it, even if its +1, any taunter > umbreon and cresselia for that matter.

Taunter messes up Umbreon good, this is true, but Taunters usually don't set up much and Taunters effect Pokemon like Blissey just like they effect Umbreon, but yet you would not argue that they drop from OU. Fact is Umbreon is only in UU in the first place because it isn't used much, and in smogon tiers unfortunately usage on Shoddy is the main factor; they were in fact reluctant to bring it back down to UU in the first place. BTW, I'm not including Cresselia in this argument because one of the testers on smogon has it on good authority that Cress will be moved back up soon.

Um, its defenses are nothing like Alakazams it has way better defenses. Porygon-Z is broken in UU i had to replace one of my team members with Hitmontop to even kill it.
A Pokémon is BL if, in common battle conditions, it is capable of sweeping through a significant portion of teams in the metagame with little effort.

Jeez it can even kill chansey after one Nast plot., and thats the best special wall in UU. You can't even switch anything into it without being OHKO'd. Registeel is set-up fodder. And only 16 pokemon in UU can even outspeed it.
