Arcanine should be considered a Legendary [UU RMT]

Post by J-A on Sun Jan 24, 2010 6:14 pm

    ***CHANGES IN BOLD***

    Claydol @ Leftovers
    Levitate
    Bold
    252 HP / 144 Def / 144 SpA
    - Rapid Spin
    - Stealth Rock
    - Earth Power
    - Shadow Ball

This here is my lead and spinner. Earth Power is for a nice STAB. Shadow Ball is for Ghosts coming in thinking I'm going to Rapid Spin. This is pretty basic.

    Arcanine @ Life Orb
    Intimidate
    Adamant
    120 HP / 152 Atk / 236 Spe
    - Flare Blitz
    - ExtremeSpeed
    - Morning Sun
    - Crunch

Arcanine is what inspired me to start building another UU team. Flare Blitz is a great addition to Arcanine allowing me to tear throught most Pokemon. EstremeSpeed helps pick off frail Pokemon. Morning Sun helps recover from LO + Flare Blitz recoil. I wasn't sure what to put in the last slot so I went for Roar to help rack up so SR damage which is always enjoyed by Arcanine.

    Mismagius @ Leftovers
    Levitate
    Timid
    4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
    - Nasty Plot
    - Substitute
    - Shadow Ball
    - Thunderbolt

Mismagius is my Spin Blocker since Arcanine relies on entry hazards. I try to get Mismagius in on a rapid Spin, then I sub up. After that I'll Nasty Plot and begin to sweep. Thunderbolt aids in removing any water types that may come in on Arcanine and Shadow Ball is pure STAB.

    Hitmontop @ Life Orb
    Technician
    Adamant
    252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
    - Fake Out
    - Close Combat
    - Mach Punch
    - Bullet Punch

Here's my Revenge Killer. This is pretty simple. Fake Out on the first turn to break any Sashes (if I fail to get SD up) or just to get a free turn. Mach Punch is used in conjunction with Bullet Punch to pick off frail Pokemon. Bullet Punch hits anything that is resistant to Mach Punch. Close Combat is added on her for sheer power and STAB.

I'm not sure about my last two Pokemon. This team would appreciate a Spiker but I don't know of a good one that I can bring in without replacing Claydol as my lead. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

For Arcanine I'd take Crunch over Roar so that you don't get walled by Rock types.

For Mismagius, I'd suggest H.P.Fighting over Thunderbolt to give you perfect coverage. You still have two Pokemon to decide so one of them could handle waters.

For Hitmontop, Sucker Punch over Close Combat for coverage, or else Pursuit for, well, pursuing Smile

For another member I would suggest Lapras. With Water Absorb it can free switch in one waters that try to pin cushion Arcanine or Claydol, and can learn T-bolt to take most of these down (or H.P.Grass for the grounds type waters, or both if you want coverage Smile). Lapras can give good support also with access to screens and Toxic.

    Lapras @ Leftovers
    Water Absorb

    192 HP / 112 Def / 160 SpA / 44 SpD
    - Surf
    - Ice Beam
    - Thunderbolt
    - Toxic

No I mean Crunch, because it does hit rock types, they don't resist it, and Crunch gives better overall coverage then Iron Head (and overall neutral coverage is more important than getting a few super effective hits).

To complement your Claydol and Arcanine, and set up spikes, Roserade would be your friend. Those three together cover most the weaknesses.

A Specially Bulky Roserade to deal with Water Type Attacks, Grass Type Attacks and Ghost Type Attacks, would work well.

This is a UU team and Roserade is OU.

    Oh, sorry ^^
Guess I didn't read it very carefully.

    In that case..
What about Qwilfish? UU, Claydol can take the Electric and Ground type attacks it is weak to, and the Pincushion can take Water and Grass Attacks aimed at Claydol and Arcanine.

Well, you asked for a Spiker, and I don't think Lapras can use Spikes ^^
If you aren't picky over Spikes, then I would take Lapras, but Qwilfish does have access to Swords Dance and Aqua Jet, so it could be a strong threat.

Ill tell ya right now, it has access to swords dance OR aqua jet... Not both. Quilfish can only learn swords dance through the Fire red or leaf green move tutors (for some reason it cant learn it via TM), and aqua jet is an egg move from HG and SS, so they're illegal together =T.
    Anyways

Lapras works as a bulky water... so does blastoise or quagsire... Id also say you should get a mixed attacker for your final spot. Blazekin works (although i hate the thing), as well as seviper, exploud, sceptile can kinda work... etc.

Darn those people at Nintendo and Game Freak....xD
Though you might have something with Quagsire..since it does have access to Recover now.

Alright looks like a decent team in the works but a few weakness's I noticed.

First, you are reallly weak to one of the most common pairings chanseytomb who basically walls your team with entry hazard support so change hitmontop to a spinner to help plus techmontop is crap anyway.

    hitmontop @ leftovers/chesto berry
    intimidate
    adamant
    252att/252hp/6def
    ~foresight
    ~rapid spin
    ~close combat
    ~rest

foresight allows you to spin on ghosts AND hit tomb for SE damage with CC and rest lets you live. Hurts both chansey and tomb opening up a sweep for missy.

Second, for your last two I'd go for the best combo in UU nowadays water/grass/fire is great synergy.

For your grass type I like s.def bulky saur.

    Venasaur @ black sludge
    calm
    252hp/252s.def/6spA
    ~leech seed
    ~sleep powder
    ~sludge bomb
    ~energy ball/giga drain/synthesis

Sludge bomb lets you git grass types that aren't affected by leech seed.

And for your water type I like Milotic with saur

    Milotic @ leftovers
    bold
    252def/252hp/6spA
    ~surf
    ~toxic
    ~recover
    ~HP electric/HP grass/ice beam

that should give you great team synergy altogether.

Finally since hitmontop will be spinning change claydol to something not so..ehh metagame weak.

I like uxie plus it helps missy out.

    Uxie @ light clay
    impish
    252hp/180def/76sp.def
    ~light screen
    ~reflect
    ~stealth rock
    ~u-turn/memento

So if you like my changes team would be
    uxie
    saur
    arcanine
    milotic
    hitmontop
    missy

    Hope I helped

P.S when I saw the title thought it said Arcanist should be legendary rofl.

    Thanks for the rate s9!

I'll test out your suggestions on Shoddy. I just don't like the Uxie lead, are there any other options?

If It's a spiker you're looking for, then this guy is your man xD
    Cloyster
    ~ Spikes / Toxic Spikes
    ~ Rapid Spin
~ Ice Beam / Toxic Spikes
    ~ Surf / Explosion / Toxic Spikes
    252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD

Come in on other defensive Pokémon and physical attackers that are not going to use Rock, Fighting, Electric, or Grass moves and attempt to set up Spikes or Toxic Spikes. Toxic Spikes are harder to use in UU, as there are many Poison-types that absorb them, so Spikes is often the more productive choice. Both forms of spikes can also be used together on the set with the secondary form of spikes taking the place of Cloyster’s secondary attack. Rapid Spin is needed to clear Spikes / Stealth Rock from your side of the field, while Surf provides a secondary STAB attack and decent type coverage. Explosion can be used over Surf in your final slot to take out a particular Pokémon that might be posing a threat to your team once Cloyster has done its job.

Well SR absolutely destroys things like moltres and charizard, Articuno aswellm taking 50 ercent damage from it.
I think both is really good because in UU sr is invaluable, while spikes and tspikes kill things that dont fly (namely those murdered by sr)

Spikes before tspikes if you havent killed the opponents poison/ venusaur type.

Lets use an Example eh Chansey lets say

Chansey switches in : Chansey loses 25% to spikes!
Chansey loses 12% (ithink) to StealthRock
    Chansey is badly posioned.

That pretty much ruined an amazing wall, and anything else can just come in and decide to attack without fear at all. See what i mean?

It is pretty hard to get ALL of the hazards up, but if anyone can do it, It's cloyster, not to mention keeping hazards off your side

Using cloyster you can get pure spikes/tspikes up, no Sr
    It cant learn sr.

Okay, is there any Pokemon that can get both Spikes and SR? I'm not too worried about T-Spikes, since Poison types would just spoil that.

    How about this Nidoqueen

    Nidoqueen @ Leftovers
    Impish
    Poison Point
    252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
    - Stealth Rock
    - Toxic Spikes
    - Earthquake
    - Roar

Would it fit my team well?

As a lead yeah, and you can replace toxic spikes with another attacking move on cloyster.
It can serve as a phazer aswell with roar, racking up sr/spikes/tspikes damage
