    Site promotion??? Empty Site promotion???

    Post by Greene1516 Wed Jan 06, 2010 3:02 pm

So I have a simple question for everyone; any ideas on a good way to make this site more active??? It seems getting new members isn't a problem as such but it is getting them to post and socialize here seems to be an issue. We'd like to hear from everyone.

I think more than anything we need to have the members who are vocal, be more vocal.

The more things members have to read, the more they can comment on. To get an opinion, sometimes you have to give one. I think you should just encourage the members to create some new topics and to reply to existing ones.

Have to get an angle on people. Give them something they want to work for in the forums and stay active and try their best.

How about making a new group and call it Elite Battlers (or something?).

Give them access to their own part of the board (that only them and higher ups can see and post). They could share special training tips, Exclusive strategies, and such in that part.

They could also battle each other (other elites) and just make everyone WANT to join.

Although, to join, you'd want to make a certain post requirement, loyalty, and proof that they're a legit and good trainer.

Well, that's just my first idea. I may come up with another later, but I'm too lazy to type now.

That is quite unfair to those of us who are not that good at battling.. Why should we get kept from seeing things that could increase our skills.

My feeling is: If you do that, it will push away less experieced battlers and draw in all those skilled battlers who act all high and mighty..

I feel that would be the worst road to go down...

So as not to just critisize, here is my Idea.

    How about a Tutoring Program.

For those of the skilled battlers who have enough spare time, they could help a few of the weaker battlers get more strategys, get better at things like predicting and even just learn more about the Competitive half of the game.

This Idea may not work, but from experience, I have found, when people hear of tutoring, we will attract more members who wish to brush up on their skills, and who knows, most of them may hang around here.

I really like this idea! Let me be the first to throw in my name as the first student of the game. That's actually the main reason i came here in the first place, to learn how to battle from the best.

And while i agree that making an exclusive section and stuff is a bit much, something along the lines of custom member titles and such could help out a bit, and will eventually help to recognise some of the more prominent members.

I have taught a few people the basics, so I know what I am doing with the tutoring.

I just don't have enough skill to actually start a whole Tutoring thing...

I just wanted to say that if we maybe had a shorter, simpler version of how to RNG (Like RNG for dummies) that might get this site more publicity...because I think Smogon's description of it is kind of long and tedious. It seems like a lot of people have gotten into RNG in the last year.

On the tutoring, myself and Roshi had it planned for when there are more people 'cause right now 90% of the people here are on par battle wise.

On the RNG, if someone wants to make one for the guides then nothing is stopping them, that's what the guide section is there for.

On the subject of guides, Smogon's Pokeradar guide is rather overly lengthy as well, so I think taht a shorter, more precise guide would be good.

I'm up for tutoring in battling and in RNG if we start getting that going.

And greene if people are already saying they'd like to be tutored must be some people plus there is always room for improvement right?

And about the RNG thing I personally think that Smogon's guide is perfectly fine and just writing a simpler version would be kind of pointless.

But like a tutoring program for battling and RNG'ing would kind of go hand and hand since we could teach people how get the pokemon they want for battles and then how to use them and all the RNG'ing and new "battle pupils" would get both the trading and battling sections of PM going a lot more.

I don't know how many people here know how to RNG but I can teach RNG breeding and I'm getting really familiar with RNG catching which both I taught myself through smogon's guide.

If needed I could write more of a key terms thread for all the words commonly used in battling and RNG so people won't feel so left out and I could write a little mini guide on the basic steps of RNG (i.e. what a delay is and how you would find it) because I don't really want to write a whole guide.

Well let's discuss a tutoring program then. What is the criteria for being a tutor??? How do we decide who is more worthy than who??? These questions need to be addressed in a fair way before this could become possible, among other questions.

People who have shown superior knowledge of the Competitive Game.

Those who have decent battling experience.

Such things are relative, others that join here may not think some of these people are as good as some of the existing members may think.

On the topic of tutoring, perhaps it should be offered to tutor for each tier?

Well we could split it up into tiers, but you couldn't realistically have one tutor per tier as tutors should have one student only at a time to better use her attentions and provide better and quicker mentoring.

Two tutors per tier then Razz

My thought was, why not have 2 tutors for the main aspects of the competitive play.

    Breeding/Natures/IV's/EV's
    Tiers

    Etc etc

Having that little would leave things in one of two ways; either tutors will be overwhelmed with students should that be made possible, or if it is restricted to one each, not enough people will be able to enter the programme. Either way it wouldn't work out.

I think I will try making a draft for the programme and put some sort of poll up.
